What Is Truckbud? How It Works, What It Costs, and Who It Is For
What Is Truckbud?
Truckbud is an on-demand large-item delivery marketplace. It connects people who need to move a single large item with independent contractor drivers who show up with a truck within hours. There is no moving company, no three-week booking window, and no paying for crew and equipment you do not need. You describe the item, set the pickup and drop-off, and a nearby driver accepts the job.
That is the short version. Here is everything else.
How Truckbud Works
Truckbud operates as a marketplace. Truckbud does not own the trucks or employ the drivers. Independent drivers sign up, get approved, and receive delivery requests through the platform. Customers book on the Truckbud app or website. The platform matches the request to an available driver, the driver shows up with a truck, and the item moves.
The process from the customer side works like this.
Step 1. Describe the item. You select the item type from a catalogue. This covers furniture (sofas, beds, tables, dressers), appliances (fridges, washers, dryers, dishwashers), fitness equipment, large electronics, and other oversized items.
Step 2. Set the pickup and drop-off. You enter where the item is coming from and where it is going. This can be a home, a store, a warehouse, a Facebook Marketplace seller's address, or anywhere else.
Step 3. Get a price. Truckbud calculates a flat fee before you book. No quotes. No back-and-forth. The price is based on the item type, the distance, and any handling complexity like stairs or number of floors.
Step 4. A driver accepts and shows up. Once you confirm, a nearby driver with a truck picks up the job. In most cases, same-day delivery is available.
Step 5. Item delivered, job done. The driver handles loading, transport, and unloading. You get a confirmation when the job is complete.
What Truckbud Is Used For
Truckbud covers any situation where you have one item or a small number of large items that need to move, but not a full household relocation.
Buying secondhand furniture. Someone buys a couch, a dresser, or a dining set on Facebook Marketplace or a similar platform and needs a way to get it home without renting a truck.
Purchasing from a retailer. A furniture store, appliance shop, or big-box retailer sells the item, and the customer needs delivery. Truckbud can be booked directly by the customer or arranged through the retailer.
Moving a single item between locations. Someone moving out and donating a couch. A student picking up a bed frame. Someone downsizing and clearing a piece of furniture.
Appliance swap. A new fridge or washing machine arriving and the old one needing to leave the same day.
Buying from estate sales, auctions, or liquidation. Large items that need same-day pickup and cannot be left.
What Truckbud Is Not
Truckbud is not a moving company. It is not the right service if you are relocating an entire household and need a team to pack, wrap, and move dozens of pieces across multiple rooms. It is also not a courier service for small parcels or standard freight.
The distinction matters because the pricing model and the service model are entirely different. A moving company charges for time, crew size, and truck capacity. Truckbud charges per item based on what that item takes to handle, loaded onto a flat fee you see before you book.
How Truckbud Pricing Works
Truckbud pricing is based on the item's handling complexity, not on time or crew headcount.
Each item in the Truckbud catalogue carries a point value that reflects how physically demanding it is to move safely. A mattress gets a different point value than a fridge. A mini fridge gets a different value than a French door refrigerator. Those points translate directly into the item handling fee.
The formula is simple: load points multiplied by the base rate equals the item handling fee. Distance is factored in separately. The total you see at checkout is the complete price. There are no hidden fuel surcharges, gratuity expectations, or weekend premiums added at the end.
Example ranges by item category:
- Sofa or sectional: priced in the mid to upper range of the furniture tier
- Mattress (queen or king): handling fee reflects size and awkwardness
- Full-size refrigerator: higher handling points given weight and fragility risk
- French door or four-door refrigerator: highest appliance tier
- Dining table with chairs: priced per item in the set
Exact pricing is generated at booking based on your specific item and route.
Who Uses Truckbud
Individual customers use Truckbud when they have purchased a large item and have no way to transport it themselves. They found something on Marketplace, bought from a store, or need an appliance moved. This is the largest segment.
Retail partners use Truckbud as a delivery layer for their customers. Furniture stores, appliance shops, and secondhand retailers can offer same-day or next-day delivery through Truckbud without managing their own fleet.
Independent sellers use Truckbud when they are selling large items and want to offer buyers a delivery option. A seller offering Truckbud delivery on a Marketplace listing removes the biggest barrier for buyers who cannot move the item themselves.
Who Drives for Truckbud
Truckbud drivers are independent contractors. They own a truck or cargo van and earn income on flexible terms. Drivers choose when they work, which jobs they accept, and how many deliveries they take in a day. All drivers go through an approval process covering vehicle requirements, insurance, and a background check.
How Truckbud Compares to Other Options
Truckbud vs DoorDash, Uber, or Instacart. Those platforms move small items, restaurant orders, and groceries in regular vehicles. None of them have the vehicle size, driver training, or item handling capability for a sofa or a refrigerator. They are not built for large-item delivery and do not offer it.
Truckbud vs renting a truck yourself. Renting a truck requires a deposit, a driver's license that covers the vehicle class, picking up and returning the truck, loading and unloading alone, and paying by the hour. Truckbud delivers the truck, the driver, and the labour for a single flat fee.
Truckbud vs hiring a moving company. Moving companies are designed for full relocations. They price for time, crew, and truck capacity. Booking a two-person moving crew for a single sofa is expensive and often requires advance scheduling. Truckbud prices per item and is available same-day.
Truckbud vs asking a friend with a truck. Free, but it costs something. It requires availability, coordination, physical effort from you, and a favour you will need to return. Truckbud removes all of that.
